Identity, Image and Reputation

1.1

Intro

'Identity, Image and Reputation' involves keeping our personal data safe online. In Year 3 we focus on creating strong passwords and understanding rules on sharing other people's data.

Framework

1.1 - Identity, Image and Reputation

  • understand simple rules for sharing images and data, e.g. understand that photographs cannot be taken of others or shared online without seeking permission first
  • use strategies for creating and keeping strong, secure passwords, e.g. three to four random words joined together or using capitalisation and numbers.

Vocabulary

data     information     share     password     secure     capital letters     special characters

The Citizenship strand is slightly different from the other three in that it focuses as much on information as it does on skills. There are also Online Safety year-by-year schemes of learning created by South West Grid for Learning on behalf of the Welsh Government which cover much of the Citizenship strand. This resource can be found on Hwb (link below)

We therefore restrict ourselves in the Citizenship strand to a few quick suggestions for activities, focusing on those few aspects of Citizenship not covered by the SWGfL schemes.

Activity Suggestions

Sharing Images and Data

  1. Create a set of rules for sharing images and turn them into a poster/video/song.
  2. Assemble a set of images and information, some of which would be OK to share without permission, some that would not (e.g. photo of mountain vs photo of friend or 'Efan loves Pizza' vs 'Megan Jones lives in Penygroes.') Pupils group them into 'Can Share', 'Cannot share'.

Password Strategy

  1. Lesson 1, Year 3 of the SWGfL Online Safety schemes of learning deals with 'Powerful Passwords'.
  2. Use howsecureismypassword.net to try to come up with strong and memorable passwords. Who can devise a memorable password that would take the longest to crack?
