Evaluating and Improving

3.3

Intro

Evaluating and improving work is a cornerstone of teaching and learning. To master this element of the Digital Competency Framework, you do not necessarily need to use technology. Your pupils can use the self-assessment and peer-assessment techniques with which they are familiar.

Having said that, there are excellent ways to use technology effectively for self and peer assessment. You'll find a few suggestions below.

Framework

3.3 - Evaluating and Improving

  • Give an opinion about their own work and suggest improvements, e.g. spot mistakes and use editing tools to improve their work.

Skill by Skill

  • Spot and correct mistakes in their work.
  • Comment on their own work and that of others.

Vocabulary

self-assessment     peer assessment     mistake     correcting     comment     improve     strength

Activity Suggestions

  1. Have them take a photo of their work to be self-assessed and insert it into Explain Everything on the iPad. They should then annotate it and record a voiceover giving their feedback.
  2. If the work has been typed in Office 365 or Google Drive, have the pupils use the Comment function to add comments about what they would like to improve.
  3. Have them make a Three-Bit Video (see 3.2c 'Photos and Videos') presenting two things they liked about their work and one thing they would like to improve. They should include a photo or video clip of their work.
