True or False Challenge
Will the teacher be able to watch the pupils' videos and work out which facts are rue and which are false?
True or False Challenge
Yr 1-6
Presenting and filming are vital skills that should be practised often throughout the year. So, why not start on the very first day! Pupils will film three clips of their partner. In two clips, their partners will recite an interesting fact about themselves. In the third they'll tell a lie. Can you guess what's true and what's false?
The Game
For anyone not familiar with 2 Truths and a Lie, here's a quick explanation:
- Pupils think of two interesting facts about themselves - the more incredible the better.
- Then, the pupils come up with a a 'fact' about themselves that it totally untrue.
- They explain all three 'facts', and see who can spot the lie.
- The game works best when both facts and the lie sound as incredible as each other.
The Video
- After selecting their facts and their lie, pupils are filmed by their partner reciting them. (There should be a seperate clip for each statement, no more than 10 seconds per clip)
- Next, they should use the 6 clips (3 from partner A, 3 from partner B) to create a video, using whichever video editing skills that are approriate for their skill level. For a thorough explanation of the different skill levels, click on:
- Play the final video to the class. Ask their classmates or the teacher to guess which bits were lies.

Here I Am
A chance for your pupils to present themselves, and to praise their friends, using presenting software.
Here I Am!
Yr 1-6
Since one of the main purposes of first day activities is to get to know the pupils, presentation software fits perfectly. The pupils can create a presentation about themselves, and then use collaboration tools to leave positive comments about their classmates.
Creating a Presentation
The pupils should create two or three slides to present themselves to you and to the class. Take a look at the 'Ability Variation' box below to see the different skill levels for differentiation.
The slides could contain:
- A general fact box (name, home, birthday, family, favourite subject)
- An incredible fact (e.g. I've been on television 5 times!)
- A photo of the child or of their favourite Welsh TV character.
- An embedded video of their favourite Welsh song.
Complimenting through Collaboration
Google for Education and Office 365 make it easy for pupils to type on each other's work. This is a lovely way to encourage them to leave positive comments about each other.
- After they create their slides, you should create one big slide deck that contains all of the pupil's slides.
- Insert a slide between each pupil's work. This slide should contain a table with two columns (Name, Comments).
- Share the file with the pupils and ask them to write positive comments on the tables of 4 or 5 different classmates. Encourage them to type on a variety of pupils, not just their friends.
- Before asking pupils to read out the comments left on their slide, check that every pupil has a few comments so that nobody feels left out.
Ability Variation

- I can find relevant images online.
Middle
- I can insert text boxes, images, video and sound into a presentation.
