Intro

'Digital Rights, Licensing and Ownership' deals mainly with copyright and the importance of crediting sources.

In Year 6 we focus on citing sources and on digitally altered images (as we did in Year 5).

Framework

1.3 - Digital Rights, Licensing and Ownership

  • cite all sources when researching and explain the importance of this, e.g. create simple lists for the referencing of digital and offline sources; discuss rights and permissions associated with this
  • understand that photographs can be edited digitally and discuss rights and permissions associated with this.

Vocabulary

owner     copyright     credit     respect     plagiarism     citing     bibliography

The Citizenship strand is slightly different from the other three in that it focuses as much on information as it does on skills. There are also Online Safety year-by-year schemes of learning created by South West Grid for Learning on behalf of the Welsh Government which cover much of the Citizenship strand. This resource can be found on Hwb (link below)

We therefore restrict ourselves in the Citizenship strand to a few quick suggestions for activities, focusing on those few aspects of Citizenship not covered by the SWGfL schemes.

Citing Online Research

This element is thoroughly covered in Lesson 4, Year 5  of the SWGfL Online Safety schemes of learning 'How to Cite a Site?'

Digitally Altered Images

Pupils will have discussed digitally altering photos in Year 5. In Year 6 it's important for them to understand that even though the image has been altered, you are still using the original photo and therefore you are still breaching copyright.
