Intro

'Online Behaviour and Cyberbullying' is the aspect of the 'Citizenship' strand with which you will be most familiar.

In Year 4 we focus on how to communicate appropriately when collaborating on an online project and how to report and prevent cyberbullying.

Framework

1.4 - Online Behaviour and Cyber-bullying

  • identify actions to report and prevent cyberbullying, e.g. use strategies such as not replying, reporting and saving evidence
  • identify appropriate behaviour when participating or contributing to collaborative online projects for learning, e.g. devise a set of rules.

Vocabulary

kind     appropriate     cyberbullying     communicate     report     prevent     online     offline

The Citizenship strand is slightly different from the other three in that it focuses as much on information as it does on skills. There are also Online Safety year-by-year schemes of learning created by South West Grid for Learning on behalf of the Welsh Government which cover much of the Citizenship strand. We therefore restrict ourselves in the Citizenship strand to a few quick suggestions for activities, focusing on those few aspects of Citizenship not covered by the SWGfL schemes.

Activity Suggestions

This element in Year 4 is very comprehensively covered by the SWGfL Online Safety Resource for Wales. Take a look at the lessons below to ensure you cover this element.

  • Lesson 1, Year 4 of the SWGfL Online Safety Resource for Wales, "Rings of Responsibility", deals with how to communicate and collaborate responsibly online.
  • Lesson 3, Year 4, "The Power of Words" is a lesson teaching pupils how to stand up to cyberbullying.
