Identity, Image and Reputation
1.1
The Citizenship strand is slightly different from the other three in that it focuses as much on information as it does on skills. There are also Online Safety year-by-year schemes of learning created by South West Grid for Learning on behalf of the Welsh Government which cover much of the Citizenship strand. This resource can be found on Hwb (link below)
We therefore restrict ourselves in the Citizenship strand to a few quick suggestions for activities, focusing on those few aspects of Citizenship not covered by the SWGfL schemes.
Activity Suggestions
What to share?
Discuss why oversharing can be a problem and explain how anything they share today will still be visible in 20 years time. Ask them to think what they would want their parents, their teacher, their future boss or future friends to be able to find out about them online. Ask the pupils to create a video for pupils their age explaining what types of things should be kept private and what is OK to share.
Discussing Internet use with Adults
Emphasise regularly (with pupils and parents) the importance of frank and honest discussions about online activities. Encourage pupils to discuss their online interests with their parents.
